ANTIGONE - ÂM MÙ : SCREENING EVENT
If King Oedipus ends as a corpse with an open wound, Oedipus in Colonus acts as a reminder, a revelation, then for Antigone, over time, that corpse became bruised, somewhat disintegrated, destroyed, but the blood still hasn't stopped leaking from the old wound, and people are still stabbing that corpse, many times, but the blood will no longer leak out. And there's a sense that, other than the characters, in the shared universe that includes, us and the gods, no one really cares. Antigone to end a Trilogy evokes the feeling of an event that is no longer important, affirming a consequence that can no longer be changed, a feeling of regret and helplessness. Each scene of Antigone is like a transparent layer of content that can be “read” over each other. The characters seem stuck in what they say, and what others say. Just as Creon first speaks of the two corpses of Antigone's two brothers at the beginning of the play, he is talking about the deaths of his own son and wife on that same day. A justice that is manipulated symmetrically and quickly.
“When the two of them perished by a double fate,
in one day stabbing and being stabbed
dirtying the other person's body
with each other's weapons,(...)” - Creon
" As fast as possible.
The gods are not slow when they bring down their wrath on those who have gone astray.” - Chorus
The actor's appearance is completely pre-recorded and shown in the common space. The screening space evokes a sense of a post-event, a space of what remains. The appearance of actors in virtual space links the notion of loss. "Antigone" is no more, only a re-projection, a retelling, a replay.
The show proposes a different approach to theatrical experiential space (although the actor-audience relationship is not direct), a space that is fundamental to theatrical experience - in terms of interaction. The direct interaction of people with each other in real space is the essential factor. The audience experiences live theatrical elements in an immersive space such as smoke, sound, light... together. In a way, the relationship between the audience replaces the one between actors and the audience.
