The Art Director of Son Hau is a visual artist; which is probably the reason why this play carries such a unique allure. The visual effects in Son Hau are explored very differently from the traditional scenography; it was the dark spaces in the decoration that create an emotional lift for the songs and music.
I think this play can be well designed and performed in Vietnam; however there is a need to introduce it in international stages especially in France where traditional Vietnamese performance arts were studied by a number of French researchers. Those researches, unfortunately, are kept inside specialized libraries with limited access to the grand audience.
To this day, Tu-ong Son Hau has proven itself to be not only a project, but a complete master work with solid analysis and careful thinking process. If Son Hau has the opportunity to perform in French and European theatrical stages, it will give the local spectators an opportunity to enjoy a new performance genre that has known its splendor days in Vietnam traditional society but risks of losing its role in the modern life.
Patrice Jorland, Former Cultural Attaché of France in Vietnam
During my mission as a Cultural Attaché in Vietnam from 1983-1987, I had the chance to collaborate with Le Cid play by Corneille directed by Jean Claude Pobaurd in Da Nang (Vietnam), thanks to which I can see the desire of a French director in promoting the values of tu-ong. Since then, 30 years has passed, however I didn't see any complete performance of this genre in France. This is one of the reasons, besides the artistic quality of the play itself, why this project of Long Ha deserves support and interest from various partners to make it happen, for the benefits of both Vietnamese and French audience.

nany cultural missions of Vietnam in Europe in the past years are to promote the culinary richness and craftsmanship; which is sometimes not strong enough to overwrite some predjudices about Vietnam. To many, this country relates to war and poverty, Ha Long Bay and Long Bien bridge, or pollution and traffic jams. It remains an uncommon knowledge to the large audience about Vietnam with performance arts, cinema and literature richness.
Son Hau is one of the very rare projects aiming at promoting Vietnamese arts to the world; something that should have been planned and sponsored by organizations at a government level. I strongly support Son Hau as well as Tu-ong project; and would like to call all organisms and individuals to support for this meaningful project, in order to revamp a new image of Vietnam in international playground.
